How much Does Irrigation Cost?
Well, that’s a very broad question, so let’s define a few things first.
- We will stick with Landscape Irrigation
- We will assume that all work will be done to a professional standard
- We will break this question into a few, more specific questions
- We will be pretty broad and general in our answers
1 . How much does it cost to have an irrigation system supplied and installed by a licenced irrigation installer?
In answering this question, I will not allow for pumps, tapping fees, contribution fees to water authorities or power connections. In our experience, you will need to allow a budget of between $10 – $27 per square meter to have an irrigation system supplied and installed. I know that’s a huge price variance, that’s why we never quote based on square meterage. This pricing can even be higher if you need under path bores done or if your site is difficult to access.
2 . How much do irrigation consultants cost?
In our experience, the cost of irrigation consultancy is approximately 5-10% of irrigation supply and installation cost, So if you have budgeted $70,000.00 dollars to have an irrigation system supplied and installed on a footy oval, allow $6000 – $8000 on top of that price for consultancy services
3 . How much should I allow for irrigation maintenance services per year?
About 5% of the capital cost of the project (If you start maintenance the same year as the installation) So if your irrigation system cost you $100,000.00 to install, allow $5000.00 per year in your budget for maintenance
4 . How much should I allow for materials if I want to do the irrigation installation myself?
In answering this question, I will not allow for pumps, tapping fees, contribution fees to water authorities or power connections. In our experience, you will need to allow for a budget of between $3 – $8 per square meter to buy the materials to install your own irrigation system.
Once again, I will reiterate that this advice is general and proper quotations for your project is advised.
